Richard's Kid, who won the 2010 Pacific Classic at Del Mar, will point towards this year's edition of that race in August.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – A familiar name has rejoined Bob Baffert’s roster of older horses for the second half of the year.

Richard’s Kid, the winner of the 2010 Pacific Classic at Del Mar, is in training with Baffert at Santa Anita, having spent the last 18 months racing without notable success in Dubai. Wednesday, Richard’s Kid worked a half-mile at Santa Anita in 46.80 seconds, the fastest of 21 recorded works at the distance.

The workout was Richard’s Kid’s first since returning to Baffert’s stable in April.

“I brought three stents and Richard’s Kid back from Dubai,” Baffert wrote in a text.

While in Dubai in late March, Baffert suffered a heart attack that left him hospitalized for much of his stay.

Owned by Zabeel International, Richard’s Kid, 7, has won 9 of 32 starts and $1,783,370. Baffert said Wednesday’s quick workout surprised him.

He hopes to give the horse a start at the current Betfair Hollywood Park meeting before focusing on Del Mar.

“He worked really well,” Baffert said.

At Del Mar in 2010, Richard’s Kid won two stakes – the Cougar II Handicap over 1 1/2 miles and the Pacific Classic, both on the synthetic Polytrack surface. Those races will be run on July 27 and Aug. 26 and are goals for Richard’s Kid.

Earlier this year in Dubai, Richard’s Kid was winless in three starts, including a fourth in the Godolphin Mile on a synthetic track at Meydan Racecourse on March 31, his most recent start.

In the Dubai World Cup, Baffert started Game On Dude, who finished 12th. The winner of the San Antonio Stakes at Santa Anita in February, Game On Dude has worked twice this month, including a half-mile in 49.40 seconds on Tuesday.

Last July, Game On Dude finished second in the Hollywood Gold Cup. The same race could be on his agenda this summer, on July 7.
