INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Bob Baffert unveiled a sharp 2-year-old last weekend when Flashback, a colt by Tapit, won his debut in a seven-furlong race for maidens.
Ridden by Julien Leparoux, Flashback was timed in 1:23.09, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 93. Flashback was fourth early and rallied wide to win by 3 1/2 lengths as the favorite. It was the sort of performance that Baffert said he expected, and one that immediately vaulted Flashback onto the list of 3-year-olds to watch in early 2013.
“He’s a nice horse,” Baffert said. “We’re high on him. We were hoping for that.”
Flashback is owned by Gary and Mary West and is a full sister to Zazu, winner of two Grade 1 races at Santa Anita in 2011 – the Las Virgenes Stakes and the Lady’s Secret Stakes.

Pretty bold statement saying he "won't make the classics". 30,000 born each year and 20 make the Derby. A real risk taker you are, Ponies.

"Pulled clear under a left-handed crack of the whip and steady handling"......He ran the final 1/8 in 13+ THIS HORSE WILL NOT MAKE THE CLASSICS UNLESS HE ACCOMPANIES A REAL RACEHORSE AS AN ESCORT PONY.
Where do you people get these notions? Because he won easily? The final furlong tells the whole story. Nothing special here. He will win a few and then become a nice high claimer when 4.

LOL...never heard they have sex changes done to horses & that too so soon. "Zazu's full sister?
By the way Flashback earned great numbers for that kinda race and so did the filly Pure Fun.

Flashback was a lock the way she trained. If u seen her in post parade she was all class.

Flashback was a lock the way he trained. Nice filly should get 10 furlongs.

Darn It ! I really liked another colt in that race, Appealing Tail, but this horse won like an experienced oild pro, not a first timer. He sat, waited, swung wide and can you say "thats all folks ":.................and I dont think Julien ever really asked him toi run !
This is really one to watch !
I was thinking he might slip under the radar when the future book opened, but alas !

NO NAY NEVER didn't break all that well in his debut but he moved up smoothly to make the lead after about 100 yards, and after he withstood a stretch challenge from the eventual runner-up he won while virtually in hand; trainer Wesley Ward is lethal with 2-year-olds and this colt figures very tough here with an effort as good as that first one. SWEET EMMA ROSE, an uncoupled stablemate of the top pick, meets males but she's clearly a threat off that debut romp; barn seems to hold all the aces.
