Hips to watch for the Fasig-Tipton Turf Showcase


Following are horses to watch during the inaugural Fasig-Tipton Turf Showcase yearling sale. Horses were selected based on their pedigrees, family performances, and past auction results of notable family members. Conformation, veterinarian records, and pedigree updates after deadline were not taken into consideration.

Hip No. 12, filly by Kitten’s Joy – Brushwork, by Discreet Cat. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent

This filly, by North America’s four-time reigning leading turf sire, is a full sister to graded-placed stakes winner Kitten’s Cat. Her second dam is multiple Grade 1 winner Manistique, and it is the family of Grade 1 winner Unbridled Command.

Hip No. 38, filly by Verrazano – Force One, by Dansili. Consigned by Darby Dan Farm, agent for Forever Spring Farm

This filly is from the first crop of her sire, who was a multiple Grade 1 winner in the United States and Group 1-placed in Europe. She is a half-sister to stakes-placed Force It, by Verrazano’s sire, More Than Ready. Her second dam is Group 1 winner Nebraska Tornado, from a productive Juddmonte Farm family Hip

No. 78, colt by Scat Daddy – Last Song, by Unbridled’s Song. Consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent.

This colt is from the final crop of prominent international sire Scat Daddy, and the sense of urgency to acquire his offspring has already been apparent this season – he was represented by fillies sold for $800,000 and $600,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale. Last Song is a Grade 2 winner.

This colt is from the immediate family of Group 1 winners Yesterday and Quarter Moon, and other names appearing further back on the page include Group 1 winners Alborada and Diamondsandrubie.

Hip No. 92, Casper d’Oro, colt by Medaglia d’Oro – Boat’s Ghost, by Silver Ghost. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent for Alastar Thoroughbred Company

Casper d’Oro is one of two in this sale for commercially prominent sire Medaglia d’Oro, who is the sire of multiple Grade 1 winners on both dirt and turf. This colt is a half-brother to Grade 1-winning millionaire Finnegans Wake as well as to Grade 2-placed Puca.

Hip No. 101, filly by War Front – On Parade, by Storm Cat. Consigned by James B. Keogh’s Grovendale, agent

This filly is the only representative in the catalog for popular international sire War Front. Her stakes-placed dam, a full sister to champion Storm Flag Flying, has already produced Grade 3 winner Parading and Grade 2-placed Protesting. The second dam is multiple Grade 1 winner and stakes producer My Flag, and the third dam is unbeaten champion and blue hen Personal Ensign.

Hip No. 117, filly by More Than Ready – Sally Bowles, by London News. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent for Stonestreet Farm

This filly by a popular turf sire is out of a mare who was a Group 2 winner in South Africa and who has produced four winners from as many starters. Grade 3 winner Consumer Credit is a full sibling to this yearling.

Hip No. 129, filly by Animal Kingdom – Sky Song, by Sadler’s Wells. Consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent

This filly is from the second North American crop by her shuttle sire, who already has stakes winner Sunny Skies in his debut crop here. This filly is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Laverock and is a half-sister to multiple group stakes producer Miss Right Note, dam of Australian champion Pierro.

Hip No. 130, colt by Distorted Humor – Sleepytime, by Royal Academy. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent

Sleepytime won the English 1000 Guineas and is the dam of Group 3 winners Gentleman’s Deal and Hathal, stakes winner Dame Ellen, Group 3-placed Spanish Harlem, and stakes-placed Oh Star. Sleepytime is out of Broodmare of the Year Aldiva, who also produced Group 1 winners Taipan and Ali-Royal and Grade 2 winner Oonagh Macool. This colt is one of two representatives in this catalog for classic sire Distorted Humor.

Hip No. 151, filly by Exchange Rate – Vesper Cat, by Mountain Cat. Consigned by Skara Brae Stables, agent

This is the final crop for the consistent sire Exchange Rate. This filly is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Strike the Bell. Their dam is a half-sister to stakes winners Vespers, dam of Grade 1 winner Hymn Book; and Database, dam of Grade 1 winner Data Link.

Kitten’s Joy is this continent’s four-time reigning leading turf sire. Stakes-placed Anura is produced five winners from as many starters, including Grade 3-placed stakes winners Luck of the Kitten and Empire Builder, full siblings to this colt. It is the family of European champion One Cool Cat, Grade 1 winner Aragorn, and French classic-placed Sha Tha.

Hip No. 168, colt by Malibu Moon – Article Rare, by El Prado. Consigned by Darby Dan Farm, agent

The only Malibu Moon yearling in the catalog is out of a Group 1-placed French Group 3 winner. His third dam is Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Allez France.
