Half-sister to American Pharoah born

Littleprincessemma, dam of American Pharoah, delivered a half-sister to the Triple Crown winner the night of Feb. 13 at Summer Wind Farm in Georgetown, Ky.

Summer Wind reported that the Yankee Gentleman mare and her chestnut Tapit filly were both in good health after delivery.

Ahmed Zayat purchased Littleprincessemma for $250,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale and named her for his youngest daughter. Winless during her racing career, Littleprincessemma has now produced two winners from as many starters, led by Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and Horse of the Year American Pharoah.

Zayat sold Littleprincessemma at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale carrying a full sibling to American Pharoah, who at the time was a two-time Grade 1-winning juvenile, for which he would earn a divisional Eclipse Award. Summer Wind signed the ticket at $2.1 million, and the mare subsequently produced Irish Pharaoh, now a yearling.

The Zayats still own American Cleopatra, a juvenile full sibling to American Pharoah, who is in training in Florida.
