Fasig-Tipton Midlantic: Several tie for top times as breeze show concludes

DRF Breeding Staff|May 14, 2015

Two horses tied for the session’s fastest furlong and three for the fastest quarter as the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale’s under-tack preview show concluded with its second session Thursday at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Md.

A Quality Road colt and a Bluegrass Cat colt each breezed a furlong in 10 seconds flat, matching the under-tack show’s fastest time established by a Big Brown filly during Wednesday’s opening session.

The Bluegrass Cat colt, consigned by King’s Equine, as agent, is out of the winning Unbridled’s Song mare Unbridled Melody. That makes him a half-brother to the Grade 1-placed stakes winner Tourist and to the stakes winner Michael With Us.

The Quality Road colt is out of the Tabasco Cat mare Social Scene, whose three winners from four starters include the stakes-placed Winsome Charm. Bobby Dodd consigns the colt, as agent.

A Wicked Rich colt, a Medaglia d’Oro colt, and a Twirling Candy colt each worked a quarter in 22 flat for the session’s best time at that distance. An Unbridled’s Song colt went in 21.40 Wednesday.

The Wicked Rich colt, named Combee, sells as the property of Wes Carter. From the first crop of his sire, Combee is out of the Let Goodtimes Roll mare Pink Tights, whose first starter is a winner.

The Medaglia d’Oro colt is consigned by Thomas and Casse, as agent for JSM Equine. The colt is out of the unraced Gone West mare Speed Succeeds, dam of three winners from as many starters, including the Grade 1 winner Brilliant Speed and the stakes winner Souper Speedy. Notable relatives include the Belmont Stakes winner Touch Gold and the Canadian champion Serenading.

The Twirling Candy colt, also from the first crop of his sire, is out of the stakes-placed Storm Boot mare Azucar Turbinada, whose first starter is a winner. It is the family of the champion and sire Apalachee, as well as the champion Belted Earl. De Meric Sales consigns the colt, who has been named Rippin Ride, as agent.

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale is set for Monday and Tuesday.
