Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale catalog now online

The catalog for the Fasig-Tipton July sale of selected yearlings is now available online, featuring 258 entries.

The single-day auction will be held July 15 in Lexington, Ky., beginning at 10 a.m. Eastern. Physical copies of the July sale catalog will be available at all Fasig-Tipton offices on June 17.

The catalog is considerably smaller than last year’s July sale book, shrinking 24 percent from last year’s 338-horse catalog. However, the new selected horses of racing age sale that will immediately follow the yearling portion ought to push the number of horses that go through the ring closer to, if not higher than, last year.

“The theme for July is ‘Right Time, Right Horse, Right Result’ and our yearlings continue to support those claims,” said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning Jr.  “Prospective buyers will find the same physical type of yearling our selection team has focused on so productively in recent years. We are equally excited about the quality of pedigrees and the sires represented in the 2013 catalog.”

At last year’s July yearling sale, a total of 189 horses sold for revenues of $15,364,000, up 15 percent compared with the previous year. The average sale price of $81,291 was a 16 percent increase over 2011, while the median held steady at $60,000.

The sale-topper at last year’s July sale was a Malibu Moon colt, out of the stakes-placed winning Wild Again mare Uncontrollable, who sold to trainer Kenny McPeek as agent for Magic City Thoroughbreds for $375,000.

The catalog for the Fasig-Tipton summer selected horses of racing age sale will be available online July 1.

“The horses accepted to date will create additional interest on July 15 and will prove a valuable attraction for both buyers and sellers,” Browning said.
