LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fasig-Tipton has added a Saratoga fall mixed and racing-age sale to its calendar to capitalize on what it called a “fast-expanding Thoroughbred population in New York,” the Lexington-headquartered auction house announced Monday.
The one-day sale will take place Tuesday, Oct. 9., at Fasig-Tipton’s Finney pavilion in Saratoga, across from the racecourse.
Entries for the auction will close Aug. 3.
“All through the spring and early summer, our feedback from several clients in New York state led us to the decision to add this sale to our schedule,” Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning said, adding that both quality and quantity of horses are on the rise in the Empire State as many had predicted when Aqueduct’s slots became a reality and began pumping revenue into purses and the New York-bred breeding program.
“The sale date makes it ideal for weanlings, in-foal mares, and breeding prospects. It also comes at a time when many major racing operations are making transitions to racing in Florida, the West Coast, and, of course, to the very attractive winter racing dates at Aqueduct.”
Fasig-Tipton account executive Peter Penny, who lives in Saratoga during the summer and fall, will coordinate recruitment.
