Ec Jet One, who inherited the role of favorite when the filly Shez a Hot Valentine broke through the gate before the start and was a late scratch, captured the $390,955 Hialeah Derby for Quarter Horses on Sunday at Hialeah Park.

Ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo for trainer Judd Kearl, Ec Jet One ($5.40) held off a late charge by 2-1 second choice Tee Chic to prevail by a neck, covering 400 yards in 19.32 seconds.

Ec Jet One, who also narrowly defeated Tee Chic in the qualifying heats, is now 4 for 6 lifetime.

Moonin the Eagle ($4.20) improved his record at Hialeah to 5 for 6 with a three-quarter-length score in the $204,310 Hialeah Maturity for 4-year-olds.

Under Ricky Ramirez, Moonin the Eagle surged past 10-1 longshot Tf Cajun Cartel in deep stretch, completing 440 yards in 21.20 seconds. It was the fifth win in 12 career starts for Moonin the Eagle, trained by Rolando Almanza.

Who Jack ($4.60), ridden by Osdany Leal for trainer Sergio Concepcion, was up by a neck over Fast Flyin Fireball in the $100,580 Florida Quarter Horse Racing Asociation Stallion Derby. The winning time for 350 yards was 17.50 seconds.
