Delta Downs: Heavy favorite Bahnah disqualified in My Trusty Cat; Synapse pays $32

Synapse had her number put up in the $150,000 My Trusty Cat at Delta Downs on Friday night after Bahnah, the 1-9 favorite who finished first by four lengths, was disqualified and placed fifth for a scuffle into the final turn. The race for 2-year-old fillies served as a prep for the Grade 3, $500,000 Delta Downs Princess on Nov. 23.

Synapse ($32) trailed for a good portion of the My Trusty Cat, as Bahnah dueled through an opening quarter in 23.54 seconds and a half-mile in 48.32. Into the final turn, Bahnah bumped with Lady Grantham, who was advancing inside of her, before opening up on the field in the stretch. Synapse, meanwhile, rallied for second, finishing three-quarters of a length in front of Ima Three Blinger. Bahnah, the dead-heat winner of the Grade 3 Schuylerville at Saratoga in July, covered the seven furlongs around two turns in 1:26.73.

Bahnah’s disqualification to fifth triggered strong show payoffs, with Synapse, who returned $8.60 to place, paying $20.40 to show. Ima Three Blinger, moved up to second, paid $5.40 and $10.40; and Bella’s Flair, moved up to third, returned $24.40.

Synapse registered the first win of her career in the My Trusty Cat. Gerard Melancon was aboard for owner-breeder Glen Warren and trainer Andrew Leggio Jr. Synapse is a daughter of Fairbanks and the multiple stakes-winning mare Sarah Lane’s Oates. She has made three career starts, running second in a maiden special weight in her debut in August, then fourth in the $100,000 Happy Ticket at Louisiana Downs in September.

The winner of the My Trusty Cat gets first preference into the Princess.
