SPOT PLAYS AND LIVE LONGSHOTS

Del Mar Race 2, (5:37 ET)

EXPLOSIVE ARGUMENT (#1, 9-2) has proven consistently quick, running three straight Beyer Speed Figures in the 70s; ran down a richer field Aug. 11 with an inside trip and should be right at home on the fence. – Byron King

Del Mar Race 5, (7:10 ET)

CHILOQUIN (#9, 4-1) This particular renewal of the Pirate's Bounty might as well be renamed "The Layoff Special," with all those layoff lines for would-be contenders such as Private Zone, Rail Trip, Ruler of Dubai, Longview Drive, So Brilliant, and Roman Threat. Let's try something with far more recency and consistency in the form of the outside-draw Chiloquin, who's highly eligible to get a perfect stalking trip from the outer under Talamo. - Marty McGee

Del Mar Race 7, (8:10 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT

YAWANNAGOKID (#7, 8-1) Those were two solid pre-layoff races, and those are two good recent works, as well. Low-profile trainer boosts price. - Marcus Hersh

Del Mar Race 7, (8:10 ET)

CRYSTALLINE FAVOR (#5, 4-1) blew the start in her turf sprint debut at BHP July 13 and was no factor. Remember, though, she took money that day (5-1) so somebody saw something they liked. It's great to see no panicky drop for her return, there's a dazzling 4f bullet work here Aug. 31 (:46.80, best of 50 that day) and D' Amato is a sharp 3 for his last 7 (43%) 2nd time out. - Michael Hammersly

Del Mar Race 10, (9:40 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT

MY LOOLOO (#1, 8-1) Slow starts won't hurt as much stretching out to two turns, and on pedigree this mile on turf will be better than the pair of sprints. Solid foundation for improvement & two works since last. - Marcus Hersh

VULNERABLE FAVORITE

Del Mar Race 7, (8:10 ET)

HANSERELLA (#6, 7-2) comes off a nice 2nd and has run some good races but she's now 0 for 22 and that last good race and the presence of Bejarano may add up to a shorter-than-should-be price on a gal who's had so many chances and who does not hold a Beyer Speed Figure edge either. - Michael Hammersly
