SPOT PLAYS AND LIVE LONGSHOTS Del Mar Race 5, (7:10 ET) TRUELEE SCRAPPIN (#1, 6-1) never fired first time off the claim for Mitchell after a nice comeback after a long layoff; perhaps he simply bounced after what may have been a demanding return effort; now cut down from 50K to 20K claiming and sits at 6-1 on the line with Gomez up. - Byron King Del Mar Race 5, (7:10 ET) BLUE JAY ATTACK (#5, 6-1) blew the start and was no factor for $25K on turf at BHP June 15 but Ellis saw fit to claim him (4 for last 12, 33%, off a claim) and has given him time to regroup. He's given a slight drop off the freshening, boasts some strong works since and ran big here a year ago, so he handles this place just fine. - Michael Hammersly Del Mar Race 6, (7:40 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT UNCLE DICK (#6, 8-1) There's lots of speed among this full field of turf routers, meaning it'll be up to Talamo to get this guy to relax through the early stages to be most effective. A couple prior NoCal efforts suggest this is doable, and surely C.Dollase has been working with this one toward that end; now let's see if the team can execute. Matches up Beyer-wise with the faves; price should be square. - Marty McGee Del Mar Race 6, (7:40 ET) Turn on the Pumps (#7, 7-2) Rallied for second this class last time behind sluggish pace & they figure to be going much faster early in this one. Lots of 2nds, but breaks through this time. - Marcus Hersh Del Mar Race 9, (8:10 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT VULNERABLE FAVORITE Del Mar Race 8, (8:40 ET) MAKE MORE MONEY (#6, 7-2) showed talent at ARP and has worked well since coming here but she hasn't run in over 2 months, it's first time on synthetic and while these aren't monsters they're liable to be tougher than what she faced at ARP. - Michael Hammersly
