Firster BELLE OF THE FLEET (#2, 5-1) might not get the respect she deserves in debut. - Marcus Hersh Del Mar Race 9, (9:10 ET) - SPOT PLAY Rather light Beyer from otherwise heady first try for JOHNS JOURNEY (#9, 6-1) may portend a square price on this gray 2yo, who seems very likely to get a clean forward trip with that education and two subsequent works now behind him. Figures an out-there factor throughout for perennially underrated barn (Machowsky) and jock (Talamo) whose sub-par Dmr record obviously isn’t indicative of his prowess. – Marty McGee   LIVE LONGSHOTS Del Mar Race 7, (8:10 ET) DMR, 7th: First-time starter BOSSERRETE, (#9, 6-1) a 2-year-old filly by Street Boss, debuts with a series of sharp workouts for under-rated trainer Howard Zucker. “Live” first out. -Brad Free VULNERABLE FAVORITES Del Mar Race 4, (6:40 ET) The word “vulnerable” is perhaps too strong; “over-bet” is appropriate for RENEESGOTZIP (#1, 4-5). This top sprint filly is good, but she benefited from a severe speed bias in her recent comeback. Odds-on is not the right price. -Brad Free Del Mar Race 5, (7:10 ET) TOM’S TRIBUTE (#7, 5-2) ran on strongly to be a sharp 2nd here July 27 in a similar spot, his first try routing and first on turf. That was sure nice and may tip him as the one to beat and the one who’ll attract money, but the 3 who finished right behind him that day were less than a length behind him so he has no margin at all for error. - Michael Hammersly
