Spot Plays

6:09 DMR 3rd

Assume the new hood was on for SPOTTED OWL’s (#10, 5-1) fast drill 7/29. Trouble in both starts, & faced better in those. - Marcus Hersh

7:10 DMR 5th

No one to fear in this 3yo N1X allowance. FONZ (#6, 15-1) raced against the early-meet speed bias last out. Bred for 1st turf run. Appealing price. - Marcus Hersh

7:40 Dmr 6th

DANCE WITH FATE (#5, 4-1) With low odds on the Baffert-trained American Pride likely to create value elsewhere in this MSW sprint, let’s try one who drew big play in his first and only and lost all chance with a poor start. Fact that Bejarano sees fit to stay aboard this Fla-bred is a big positive, as is the fact he now has that valuable experience under him. Major improvement over disappointing debut seems highly likely. – Marty McGee DANCE WITH FATE was well-regarded into his debut, but broke slowly and finished better-than-looked. The 2-year-old continues to train fast, and should show his true ability second time out. sired by Two Step Salsa, he is trained by Pete Eurton. -Brad Free

9:10 DMR, 9th

First off the Jeff Mullins claim, MAYBE TUESDAY (#8, 6-1) can spring an upset. He has back numbers plenty good enough and returns fresh first start for a winning barn. Mike Smith rides the $25,000 claiming veteran. -Brad Free

Vulnerable favorite

Del Mar Race 6, (7:40 ET)

AMERICAN PRIDE (#2, 5-2) comes in as the proven commodity with 2 nice races to start his career including a 2nd here July 27. Even so, his 2 Beyers won’t make the others quake in their shoes (70, 66) and he’s facing a number of other promising youngsters. -Michael Hammersly
