Danedream produces first foal, Frankel filly

Danedream
Japan Racing Association Danedream is trying to become the first Arc victor to win the Japan Cup.

Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner and champion Danedream produced her first foal, a filly from the first crop of the unbeaten Frankel, Jan. 27 at Newsells Park Stud in England.

Danedream, a 6-year-old daughter of Lomitas, was a major winner in four countries during her racing career. Group stakes-placed as a juvenile, she blossomed as a 3-year-old, landing a pair of Group 1 events in Germany, the Grosser Preis von Berlin Deutschland Preis and the Longines Grosser Preis von Baden, as well as taking the Group 2 Italian Oaks and finishing third in the Group 2 Italian Derby. Danedream's virtuoso performance was a five-length romp in race-record time in the Arc, earning her honors as Germany's Horse of the Year for 2011.

The following season, Danedream traveled to England to win the Group 1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and repeated in the Preis von Baden. However, an outbreak of equine infectious anemia at her training base and a subsequent quarantine prevented her from traveling to France for a title defense in the Arc. She retired with a career bankroll of $5,044,792.

Out of the winning Danehill mare Damedrop, Danedream is from the family of French champion Indian Rose and additional Group 1 winners Vert Amande and Le Nain Jaune,

Frankel, two-time European Horse of the Year, stands at owner-breeder Juddmonte Farm's Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket, England. The 6-year-old Galileo horse concluded his career unbeaten in 14 starts, including 10 Group 1 wins.

Frankel's first foal, a colt out of Group 3 winner Chrysanthemum, arrived Jan. 11. His star-studded first book also included Kentucky Broodmare of the Year Oatsee; British Broodmare of the Year honorees Arrive and Binche; champion and classic producer Zomaradah; Eclipse Award winners Lahudood, Stacelita and Zagora; Stacelita’s dam, Soignee; champions Divine Proportions, Ramruma, Sariska, and Finsceal Beo; Musical Treat, dam of Finsceal Beo; Japanese champion Vodka; classic winners Light Shift and Elusive Wave; French classic producer Lady Vettori; multiple Grade/Group 1 winners Dar Re Mi, Heat Haze, and Midday; Midday’s dam, Midsummer; and Grade 1 winner Balance, a half-sister to Zenyatta.

Danedream is already booked back to Frankel for 2014.
