Crist's condition remains stable

Steven Crist, editor and publisher emeritus of Daily Racing Form, remained in stable but critical condition Wednesday after suffering cardiac arrest April 6 at his home in Hempstead, New York.

Crist, 57, had the episode one day after attending the Wood Memorial card at Aqueduct. He was in critical but stable condition Monday morning.

Crist was part of a group that purchased the DRF in 1998. The group later sold the newspaper, but Crist stayed on as publisher emeritus and as a columnist.

Crist, who has been called “the king of the pick six,” is the author of several handicapping books and the autobiography “Betting on Myself.” He co-founded a competitor to DRF, the Racing Times, in the early 1990s and was a vice president of the New York Racing Association from 1994-97.
