Castellano breaks Dominguez's earnings record

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Javier Castellano established a North American single season earnings record by a jockey after winning Friday’s third race at Gulfstream Park aboard I Ain’t Gonna Lie. Castellano, 36, eclipsed the old mark of $25,634,852 established by Ramon Dominguez in 2012.

“I’m very proud and thankful to break the record and be on the same level with such a classy guy as Ramon Dominguez,” said Castellano shortly after his record-breaking ride. “You work all year long for a moment like this.”

Castellano thanked all the owners and trainers who gave him the opportunity to ride their horses during the course of the year while also singling out his agent, Matt Muzikar, for special recognition.

“I especially want to thank my agent,” said Castellano. “He handled my business so well and put in a lot of effort to get me on the right horses all year long.”

Castellano, who won riding titles this year at Gulfstream, Saratoga, and both Belmont Park meetings, said it was difficult to single out any one highlight during his record-setting season.

“Right now I have so many horses going through my head, it’s hard to single any one out,” said Castellano. “I’m just blessed to be able to be leading rider in New York, where the purses are so good, and here at Gulfstream against all these other great jockeys in the winter. To be consistent, and the leading rider all year round, is very special to me and probably more impressive than breaking the record money wise.”
