Calder: Two supplemented to Azalea

Email

MIAMI - In addition to having Irrefutable in the Smile Sprint, trainer Bob Baffert will also be well represented in both graded stakes for 3-year-olds on Saturday's Summit of Speed card at Calder, with May Day Rose in the $150,000 Azalea for fillies and Smash in the $200,000 Carry Back.

May Day Rose was supplemented to the Grade 3 Azalea, along with the undefeated Just Louise and comes in off an easy victory in Hollywood Park's Grade 3 Railbird on May 21. That victory came over an artificial surface, but May Day Rose was a Grade 3 winner earlier this winter over dirt in Santa Anita's Santa Ysabel Stakes.

Just Louise won both her starts at 2 but has not raced since capturing Churchill Downs' Grade 3 Debutante in June of 2010. She shows only two published work since April 10, the latest a bullet five furlongs at Churchill on June 29.

The local contingent is led by Beso Grande, who has won all three of her starts around one turn at 3 including the French Village and Leave Me Alone stakes with the addition of blinkers earlier this session.

The speedy White Merlot, Devilish Lady and My Pal Chrissy complete the compact lineup for the six-furlong Azalea.
