Belmont Stakes handle revised slightly upward

Email

Handle on the Belmont Stakes on Saturday at Belmont Park was $92.15 million, according to a revised chart released by Equibase, slightly higher than an initial estimate reported by Daily Racing Form just after the first chart was released Saturday night.

The first chart, with figures provided by the New York Racing Association, listed handle on the Belmont Stakes as approximately $74 million, in conflict with separate figures available through live feeds of mutuel-pool data. DRF used the mutuel-pool data and a total-handle figure supplied by NYRA for the entire Saturday card to estimate Belmont Stakes handle at $90.3 million.

The mutuel-pool figures on the chart were amended Sunday. The total-handle figure includes all straight and exotic wagers made on the Belmont Stakes, along with the mutuel-pool data for all multirace wagers ending with the Belmont Stakes.

The revised figure is up 35.5 percent from the previous Belmont Stakes record of $68 million set in 2004, and it is 75.1 percent higher than betting on the race in 2013, when a Triple Crown was not on the line.

Pretty weak card Saturday. Think not just NY but racing in general needs consistency. If I was a new player lured in from Triple Crown and this Sat was going to be my first and only taste at the game, I wouldn't be too excited. States need to communicate and not just say "its not our problem". Appoint a commissioner just like the NBA, NHL, MLB, etc..

That was a late spring Breeders Cup. One of best single days of racing I've seen. Saratogo and Delmar only a month away so this lul won't last long.

The card was very good and the betting windows worked very well, probably the best I can remember. They'll probably do the same formula next year Do without LL Cool J and Frank Sinatra Jr. The former seemed out of his hood and the latter sounded like a karaoke knockoff of his father.

Booking LL Cool J on Belmont Day was a REALLY BAD decision by NYRA

The AmTote machines I came across were about 4-5 to work. Techs too few and mostly missing, as the day went along.

How much was handle down on Memorial Day without the Met? They try and glorify and talk around the negatives, but lets see what Memorial Day looked like. Was a terrible card without the Met and you could see tumbleweeds blowing through the grandstands.

But I was looking at handle on Memorial Day 2013 vs Memorial Day 2014.. Anyone have those numbers?

Answered my own ? Memorial Day 2013 was 12 million. Memorial Day 2014 without the Met Mile was 8 million. NYRA did very well with their Super day schedule.
