Barretts: Pair show speed on preview day

A Congrats colt and a Speightstown filly were the fastest workers over a furlong Friday at the Barretts May 2-year-old sale in Pomona, Calif., covering a furlong in 10 seconds.

Hip No. 67, a Congrats colt out of stakes-placed White Ruffle, and Hip No. 77, a Speightstown daughter of Bridled, shared the honors. Callaway Thoroughbreds consigns the Congrats colt, and the Stephens Thoroughbreds agency consigns the Speightstown filly.

Two horses also shared the fastest work over a quarter-mile, 21.4 seconds. They were Hip No. 21, a Corinthian colt out of stakes winner Menifeeque, and Hip No. 55, a Hard Spun-Sweet Minister colt that is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Sinister Minister. Both are consigned by Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables agency.

Hip No. 14, a Stevie Wonderboy colt out of stakes-placed Marquise Miss, posted the day’s fastest three-eighths work in 34.6 seconds. He is a half-brother to stakes-winner Miss Tizzy.

The Barretts May auction takes place Monday at 6:30 p.m. Pacific.
