Assiniboia Downs: Regal Silver back with fillies for Debutante

Email

Regal Silver, third when facing males last time out in the 5 1/2-furlong Graduation, will be back with fillies Friday in the $30,000 Debutante Stakes at Assiniboia Downs.

The 5 1/2-furlong Debutante, for 2-year-old fillies, attracted a field of eight.

Regal Silver, bred in Manitoba by her owner, Phil Kives, was a maiden winner first crack out at 4 1/2 furlongs and then was beaten 7 1/4 lengths as the third-place finisher in the Graduation.

Adolfo Morales retains the mount on Regal Silver, who will begin from post 4 for trainer Shelley Brown, who also will send out Bold Humor.

A winner of her only start at five furlongs in front-running fashion, Bold Humor will start from post 8 under the returning Jennifer Reid.

Missin Maggie was claimed for $9,375 from a first-out victory at 4 1/2 furlongs and then ended 1 1/4 lengths behind Regal Silver as the fourth-place finisher in the Graduation.

The blinkers will go on Missin Maggie, who drew post 1 and will be ridden by Chris Husbands.

Alexandra S and Lana’s Luck are the other winners in the Debutante field, but their successes came in the maiden-claiming ranks.

Robbin Martens claimed Alexandra S for $12,000 from her first start, which was a winning effort at Northlands Park over 4 1/2 furlongs.

Moving to Winnipeg for the Graduation, Alexandra S faltered badly to finish a distant last of seven.

Lana’s Luck will be making her second start after a debut win for $7,500.

Rounding out the field will be the maidens Jungle Lass, Why Cry Cowgirl Up, and Katie Shimmers, who finished 2-3-4 behind Bold Humor on Aug. 9.

Jungle Lass was the odds-on choice and made a good late run under Adrian Ramos.

Why Cry Cowgirl Up had finished second to Lana’s Luck in her opener and again will be ridden by Paul Nolan.

Katie Shimmers will be racing without blinkers in the Debutante after experimenting with the equipment last time.
