American Pharoah has first mare confirmed in foal

Email

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah has cleared the next hurdle of his nascent stud career by getting his first mare confirmed in foal.

Coolmore, which stands American Pharoah at its Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky., announced Friday that Untouched Talent has been confirmed in foal on an initial scan. The Storm Cat mare was among the first mares covered by American Pharoah when Kentucky breeding sheds officially opened the weekend of Feb. 13.

Untouched Talent won the Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes and finished second in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante during her own racing career. She is the dam of four winners from as many starters, led by Arkansas Derby winner Bodemeister, who finished second in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes; and Fascinating, who finished second in the Del Mar Debutante and third in the Chandelier Stakes, both Grade 1 events.

Coolmore purchased Untouched Talent for $5 million out of the 2012 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale.

She is part of an outstanding first book of mares for American Pharoah that also includes Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady; championship and/or classic producers Arch’s Gal Edith, Charming, Ivanavinalot, Mo Chuisle, and Playa Maya; champions Rags to Riches, Conquest Harlanate, and Judy the Beauty; and Grade 1 winners Awesome Maria and Joyful Victory.

A.P. and Rags to Riches... there shouldn't be a stamina problem with their baby. I still remember her winning the Belmont the day my son was born.
