American Horse Council names Broadway as president

Julie Broadway, the executive director of the American Morgan Horse Association and Educational Charitable Trust since 2007, has been named to succeed Jay Hickey as president of the American Horse Council, the AHC announced on Friday.

Broadway, who has bachelor’s degrees in psychology and industrial relations and a master’s of business administration, will take the helm of the AHC as of July 1. Hickey, who has been president of the AHC since 1993 and on the AHC staff since 1989, announced earlier this year that he would retire June 30.

A release from the AHC said that Broadway has “played an active role” in the AHC over the past several years as executive director of the AMHA.

“I’m honored, and I'm grateful to the board of trustees for the opportunity to lead this exceptional organization,” Broadway said in the release. “It is a privilege to be part of an organization that advocates on behalf of the equine industry and works to unify the equine industry.”

The AHC also announced on Friday that Ben Pendergrass, the organization’s vice president of government affairs since 2008, has been appointed senior vice president for policy and legislative affairs.
