BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Trainer Todd Pletcher has scheduled Gemologist’s first work since his victory in the Grade 1 Wood for Sunday morning at Palm Meadows but could be forced to call an audible and move the drill up at least one day with rain in the forecast for all of south Florida this weekend.
Pletcher also said he has yet to commit to a rider for El Padrino should the Risen Star winner make it into the Derby field. El Padrino, who is also slated to work Sunday at Palm Meadows, is 22nd on the graded earnings list. The top 20 entrants by graded earnings will be allowed to run if the Derby overfills, as expected.
“I’ve made some calls trying to see who might be available but we don’t have anybody lined up yet,” Pletcher said on Thursday.
Among the horses ahead of El Padrino on the graded earnings list is Triniberg, who is scheduled to work at Calder on Friday morning, after which his connections said they would make a final decision on whether to run him next in the Derby or the Derby Trial.

Already , that should give Gemologist fans the FIRST CLUE that the Gem isnt what this Colt is all brought up to be come Derby Time . If a jockey doesnt know now how good a Colt is - that ought to tell ya something . Honestly Javier wants back on UNION RAGS . I have said this for well over a month now ( Gemologist ) will Not even complete the ( Superfecta ) reguardless what post position is drawn . Javier is really not a very happy camper at this point in time . If it wasnt for his Agent ; Javier would still be the rider for UNION RAGS . But the Agent got too greedy to early , and now Javier is more confused now than before , and does not sleep well at night - just thinking What - Could - Have - Been !

Its a plus for El Padrino that he gets a new jock. The last race his jock seemed more worried about UR winning than El Padrino winning. Prado sounds good with Padrino.

Go Javier. The best jockey in America his first KD win paying $15. Gemologist from post 10. That's da prediction. So guys if he draws 10 that's a gift.

Gemologist is injured..... Not going to make the Derby. J. Castellano to ride El Padrino.

Best Bets
BIG JOHN B takes a short drop off the claim and layoff, which could be viewed as a negative, but he has some decent works for this return and he has a decent-sized Beyer edge against this group; tactical speed should help him work out a favorable trip. SKIFFS BREWMEISTER merits respect off that last win and figure, his best yet; dangerous if he's able to take another step forward. BRODY BOY finished off the board in his turf debut but he earned a decent figure despite running 7th there, and he did endure a fairly tough trip; most recent workout at Parx indicates he retains his form.
