Noble's Promise, making his first start since running fifth in the Group 1 St. James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot June 15, returned to winning form in taking the third race Friday on the Breeders' Cup undercard.

Racing in an overnight stake for 3-year-olds - officially called The Jimmy V "Don't Give Up...Don't Ever Give Up!" - Noble's Promise exhibited some of the class he showed in winning the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity last fall, as well as in runner-up finishes behind Lookin At Lucky in the CashCall Futurity and Rebel Stakes in the winter and early spring.

The fifth-place finisher in this year's Kentucky Derby, he raced six furlongs in 1:08.92, easily the fasted time at the distance since the meet opened last Sunday.

The winner utilized a style in winning the third race that many horses have used with success in recent days - stalking the pace while racing approximately three paths off the rail.

He paid $6.
