Breeders' Cup: European misfires

For those handicappers exericising the EDT (European Dominance Theory), Friday has provided a rude awakening. After slaying 'em the last two Breeders' Cups at Santa Anita, and generally flaunting overall superiority to North American foes during their seasonal raids, the Euros have so far this Friday faded meekly into the crowd.

The most recent example was Theysken's Theory, who for much of the betting was favored at 3-1 in the Juvenile Fillies, but failed to kick home with any enthusiasm after prompting the pace. Flood Plain was plain awful in the Juv. Fillies Turf, but none of the other three Euros were any kind of factor, either. And in the Marathon, Precision Break faded badly off a perfect pressing trip, while Bright Horizon never got a sniff.

Now comes the Filly and Mare Turf, with Midday a 4-5 favorite. If she fails to factor, our friends from across the pond will be crying in their Guiness this evening.
