Betting pattern on Bad Boy under investigation

Santa Anita officials are already looking into an odd betting pattern in the sixth race, run just minutes ago, regarding the betting favorite, Bad Boy. He had nearly $40,000 in the win pool with minutes to go before the race, but then more than half that money came off as post time neared. At the off, though, the money was back in the pool. "The state auditors are checking into it," said Randy Hartzell, Santa Anita's director of pari-mutuels. "The tote companies are trying to find out where the money was taken out and and where it was put back in. It might have been something as simple as someone cancelling tickets on the wrong horse and then putting it back, but we want to make sure. Obviously we don't want anyone manipulating our pools."
