Finallymadeit romps in Hooting Star

South Florida's wet weather may bother some people. But it's certainly no problem for trainer Javier Negrete or his speedy 3-year-old Finallymadeit.

For the third time this season, Finallymadeit benefited when a race was taken off the turf, drawing off impressively through the stretch to an easy 6 1/2-length decision over Bow Out in the $50,000 Hooting Star Stakes at Calder. The Hooting Star scratched down from eight to five starters after it was moved to the main track following several days of heavy rain.

Dirge gets up by a head

The odds-on Dirge got the job done - barely - in his stakes debut in the $60,000 Alphabet Soup Handicap for Pennsylvania-breds at Philadelphia Park, catching Serene Harbor at the wire to win the 1 1/16-mile turf race by a head. Sonvida Red was third.

Ridden by Rajiv Maragh, Serene Harbor rated inside early and came through on the rail to take over from the pacesetting Sonvida Red coming off the turn. Serene Harbor drew clear in the stretch but didn't have enough left to hold off Dirge's determined late bid under jockey Eriluis Vaz.

Lookinforthesecret comes off narrow loss

STICKNEY, Ill. - Lookinforthesecret never even knew what hit him.

In a high-end turf-sprint allowance race Sept. 16 at Arlington, Lookinforthesecret was in the process of doing what he mostly has done since trainer Jamie Ness and owner Balkrisna Sukharan claimed him this past winter at Tampa Bay Downs - win. Lookinforthesecret, haltered for just $12,500, has seven victories in 2007, and deep in the stretch that mid-September day, win No. 8 seemed well within range until the classy grass horse Fort Prado let fly with a last-minute burst, beating Lookinforthesecret by a neck.
