Saratoga pick six pays $28,000

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Ramon Dominguez wasn’t the only one to have six winners Sunday at Saratoga.

There were 31 winning tickets sold on the pick six, each worth $28,666. There was a carryover of $280,309 going into Sunday after the wager went unhit the first two days of the meet. An additional $1,065,346 was poured into the pool on Sunday.

Monmouth: Colony Club wears down Inspired to upset Klassy Briefcase

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Colony Club, the longest price in the field at 26-1, reeled in even-money favorite Inspired to win the $61,600 Klassy Briefcase Stakes for filly and mare turf sprinters on Sunday at Monmouth Park.

A 6-year-old owned and trained by Alexandra White, Colony Club picked up her first victory since the 2011 edition of the Fort Monmouth Stakes. She got it with a change of tactics, running right behind the leader instead of dropping far off the pace.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Trainer Kelly Breen took stalls at Saratoga for the first time because he thought he had horses - especially 2-year-olds - that could compete at this elite meeting. Breen’s assessment was spot on as Bern Identity backed up his 13 3/4-length maiden win at Belmont on June 1 with a 1 1/4-length victory in Sunday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The way he worked Sunday morning at Saratoga, Gemologist gave every indication he’s ready to return to the races next weekend.

His connections, however, on Sunday were not ready to decide where that return would take place. The choices are Saturday’s $600,000 Jim Dandy at Saratoga or the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

Del Mar: Acclamation vs. Game On Dude rematch looms in Pacific Classic

DEL MAR, Calif. - There is a strong likelihood of a rematch between top older horses Acclamation and Game On Dude in the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Aug. 25.

Acclamation extended his winning streak to seven races, all graded stakes, in Saturday’s Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes on turf, a race he won in 2011 as a prep to a winning performance in the Pacific Classic.

Saratoga: Summer Front proves superiority in Duluth Stakes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Trainer Christophe Clement passed on the opportunity for a big payday in lieu of pretty much a sure one this weekend with his 3-year-old turf specialist Summer Front. who rallied to a popular two-length victory over Lockout in Sunday’s $100,000 Duluth Stakes at Saratoga.

Summer Front was also entered in Saturday’s $600,000 Virginia Derby. But the prospect of less-than-firm ground and the 1 1/4-mile distance of that race prompted Clement to take the conservative route and keep War Front home for the weekend.

Prairie Meadows: American Sugar upsets Prairie Gold Lassie under a bruised Ocampo

ALTOONA, Iowa - On a day that began ominously for jockey Israel Ocampo, he was able to cap off a Saturday evening double with a victory above 21-1 longshot American Sugar in the $75,000 Prairie Gold Lassie Stakes.

Dislodged from his morning's first worker at 6:20 a.m., Ocampo lay still underneath the rail for several minutes until walking off unscathed.
