With this race coming off the turf, the focus shifts to the quartet of main-track-only entrants. Whittington Park (#13) is likely to take money on the basis of his victory at this level two back. He did get a strong pace ahead of him that day, something he may not receive here. He was more forwardly placed in a smaller field, off-the-turf affair at this configuration last time and lacked that same late punch. He's obviously a major player, but I didn't want to settle for a short price on him
Let’s briefly talk about weight assignments in graded stakes races – namely, that there should be none beyond simple weight-for-age. Why must the American jurisdiction walk out of step with the rest of the world and apply allowance conditions to races like the Grade 1 Diana, where, for no good reason, Excellent Truth gets four pounds from the others? I’ll wait for an answer . . .

The race of the day comes at Los Alamitos, where some hold the opinion that long layoff comebacker Sharp Azteca can give Kopion a run for her money. Sorry – no. In fact, a large number of Saturday stakes yielded a small number of appealing wagering opportunities.
