Saratoga | Race 9 | Post Time 5:44 p.m. (ET)
Saturday offers a Breeders’ Cup Classic preview, albeit involving two unplayable races some 2,800 miles apart.
At Saratoga, Sovereignty races for the first time since the Belmont. Baeza looks like he’s blooming, and the Jim Dandy, occupying an intermediate space on Sovereignty’s agenda, looms a “trap” race. However, I believe Sovereignty will end his career considered a great horse, and a great won’t lose this Jim Dandy.
BLAME IT ON ABBY
Trainer: Peter Miller
Last race: July 18, race 7th
Finish: 3rd by 1 1/2
Beyer: 55
Debut 2-year-old Cal-bred filly by Blame tossed her head taking dirt early, dropped back behind runners, rallied in traffic, finished willingly in a promising first start.
Burnham Square nearly got the call in the continent’s main event, the Haskell. He’ll give Journalism a run, but if Journalism can avoid a tough trip (no sure thing!) Burnham Square can’t contain him. On Monmouth turf, Segesta in the Matchmaker and Rebel Red in the United Nations just missed this week’s cut.
