Louisiana considering sports betting tax hike to fund college athletics

The Louisiana sports betting market could soon see a more than 100 percent tax increase.

The state's House Appropriations Committee earlier this week forwarded House Bill 639, which would raise the online tax rate from 15 to 32.5 percent. A large chunk of the extra funding would go toward supporting public universities competing at the Division I level, such as LSU, Louisiana Tech, McNeese, and others.

Nebraska tables online sports betting measure following filibuster

Nebraska will no longer pursue legal online sports betting.

Sen. Eliot Bostar (D-District 29) on April 23 withdrew LR 20CA after he realized he did not have the necessary support to overturn a filibuster orchestrated by Sen. Brad von Gillern (R-District 04).

Bostar said he had 32 votes, one off of the 33 he needed.

Parimutuel horse race wagering access added to Caesars Sportsbook app in Colorado and Kentucky

Caesars Sportsbook customers in Colorado and Kentucky now have parimutuel horse race wagering available, just in time for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby and the upcoming Triple Crown races.

It launched Tuesday as Caesars Entertainment announced that the Caesars Racebook wagering interface has been integrated into the Caesars Sportsbook app in the states of Colorado and Kentucky.

NCAA agrees to sell postseason data to sportsbooks via Genius Sports

The NCAA for the first time ever has agreed to sell its championship data to U.S.-licensed sportsbooks.

The deal will be facilitated by sports technology company Genius Sports, who already agreed to a deal with the NCAA. The deal will give the company the right to sell data pertaining to all of the NCAA’s postseason tournaments and events through 2032.

The arrangement cover the all-important men's and women's basketball tournaments, two of the largest legal sports betting events of the year.

New York sports betting bill proposes deposit and wager limits, ad regulations

A New York legislator is hoping to add restrictions on deposits, wagers and operator advertising to the state’s sports betting market.

Assemblyman Robert Carroll (D-District 44) presented Assembly Bill 7962, which would enact a series of regulatory changes to the New York sports betting scene. Those include a $5,000 daily wagering limit, changes to valid deposit methods and new advertising standards.

Nebraska online sports betting bill passes first vote, needs further approval

A bill to legalize Nebraska online sports betting is making its rounds in the state legislature.

Legislative Resolution 20CA, proposed by Sen. Eliot Bostar (D-29), would allow local voters to determine the fate of online sports betting at the November 2026 ballot. The proposal advanced past a first-round debate, 27-16.

An uphill battle still remains, though, as one critic claimed they would filibuster the next stage of debate and prevent the bill from getting the necessary 33 votes.

Kansas bill would transfer sports betting renewal authority to lawmakers

Kansas is on the verge of a major shakeup in its sports betting market.

Lawmakers last week approved a budget clause that would prohibit regulators from negotiating sportsbook license renewals through fiscal year 2026, which ends in June. That would allow lawmakers to change sports betting rules and regulations, such as tax rates and the number of licensees, before the renewal period opens.

North Carolina introduces bill to ban college player prop betting

North Carolina lawmakers are reconsidering the merits of college player prop betting just 13 months after launching their online sports betting market.

House Bill 828 was filed Tuesday, April 8 by a bipartisan group of representatives. The bill would ban player prop betting on any non-professional athlete as part of a movement to reduce harassment of college athletes.
