HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Gettysburg Address should be closer to the pace than he found himself last out when he meets comebacking stakes winner Gold Sweep in Sunday’s eighth race at Oaklawn Park.

The entry-level allowance for 3-year-olds at a mile was split into divisions. The lineup for the sixth race includes Footprint and Next Level, who both exit the Gun Runner at Fair Grounds. The races, which end at the sixteenth pole, could produce starters for next month’s Grade 2, $1.25 million Rebel Stakes.

Liberal Arts to start campaign in Southwest Stakes

Liberal Arts has amassed 13 Kentucky Derby points, with 10 coming from his Street Sense win.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Liberal Arts is on pace to launch his 3-year-old campaign next Feb. 3 in the Grade 3, $800,000 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park, trainer Robbie Medina said Friday.

The draw for the Kentucky Derby points race will be held Sunday. The first five finishers from the 1 1/16-mile race will earn points on a scale of 20-10-6-4-2.

Post Time stretches out to a mile in rescheduled Jennings

Post Time stretches out to a mile for the first time Sunday when he faces a strong group of Maryland-bred or -sired performers in Laurel Park’s $75,000 Jennings Stakes for 4-year-olds and upward.

The Jennings shares top billing on the 10-race program with the one-mile Geisha for fillies and mares that are Maryland-bred or -sired.

Both stakes were originally carded for Jan. 20, but were postponed after extreme winter conditions forced Laurel to cancel Jan. 19-21.

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Nearly three decades after winning his first Eclipse Award for outstanding trainer, Bill Mott won his fourth for the job he did in 2023, campaigning three individual champions including Cody’s Wish, who was also crowned Horse of the Year.

Mott, who the Eclipse Award in 1995, 1996, and 2011, became the seventh trainer to win at least four Eclipse Awards, joining Todd Pletcher (8), Bobby Frankel (5), Laz Barrera (4), D. Wayne Lukas (4), Bob Baffert (4), and Chad Brown (4).

Winter mixed sale could offer clues to the future of California racing

Quite a lot has changed in California in the 12 months since the last mixed auction was conducted in the state.

Last July, Golden Gate Fields announced it would cease racing, a plan initially scheduled for December and then delayed to June 9 of this year. Beyond that, the prospects for year-round racing in Northern California have not been resolved.

Mor Spirit will stand his first Indiana season in 2024 at Swifty Farms in Seymour for a $2,500 fee, joining a roster led by Unbridled Express. An 11-year-old son of Eskendereya, Mor Spirit formerly stood at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky, and the numbers he garnered in that state give him a clear advantage moving to a regional marketplace.

Skippylongstocking had a memorable year on the track in 2023, and his success played a key role in lifting Exaggerator to the top of the general sire list in Louisiana.

Exaggerator had total progeny earnings of $5,009,737 last year to edge Carpe Diem, who ranked second in the state with $4,960,721, according to Daily Racing Form statistics.
