HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Trainer Ron Spatz is pointing Loco Abarrio to the $125,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint a week from Saturday. The question is which Loco Abarrio will show up – the one who defeated multiple stakes winner Super Chow while earning a career-best Beyer Speed Figure in his 2023 finale? Or the one who finished last, beaten nearly a dozen lengths as the 2-1 favorite when switching to the Tapeta track in his 2024 debut?

Moonlight (above, left) is cross-entered on the Fair Grounds Saturday card but is expected to run in the Risen Star. Trainer Todd Pletcher also has Cardinale in the race.

Cox tries to right ship with Nash in overnight race

Coady Photography
Nash has been beaten as the favorite in the Gun Runner and Lecomte at the Fair Grounds meet.

When Nash came to Fair Grounds in early December following a sharp second at Keeneland sprinting in his career debut and a blowout two-turn Churchill Downs maiden win that earned a 97 Beyer Speed Figure, his connections, Godolphin and trainer Brad Cox, must have figured the colt could be racing on the Risen Star Stakes card in February. He is, but not in the Risen Star.
