Beautiful Love at SAR Aug 17 2024

Beautiful Love didn’t run well in her first U.S. start but may enjoy the longer distance of the Grade 3 Jockey Club Oaks.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Lady Mary appears to have found a soft landing spot in which to make her North American debut when she faces 10 rivals in Saturday’s Grade 3, $350,000 Jockey Club Oaks Invitational at Aqueduct.

A glut of turf stakes, many with more money and prestige than this one, has left the Jockey Club Oaks a bulky field of 11 but only one stakes winner, and that runner, Caldwell Luvs Gold, won those stakes on dirt against New York-breds.

Stretching out, Man O Rose could be lone speed in E.B. Johnston

Benoit Photo
Fast Draw Munnings is one of the chief contenders to Man O Rose in Saturday's E.B. Johnston at Los Alamitos.

Although he is a sprinter in his first route, even though he is an allowance runner in his first stakes, and despite finishing last in his most recent start, Man O Rose looks formidable in the $75,000 E.B. Johnston Stakes on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Lone speed always commands respect, and Man O Rose could be loose on the lead when he goes long in the stakes for older statebreds. After winning 6 of 11 sprints, Man O Rose will test his stamina at one mile in the E.B. Johnston for California-breds.
