Gloria’s Princess has scored both of her wins on the lead but showed she has the ability to rate in her last start on Dec. 20.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Though Gloria’s Princess recorded both of her wins on the front end, she showed a new dimension when running a respectable third in an allowance race here last month, her first start off a nine-month layoff.

With expected improvement second off the bench and the likelihood of a solid pace in front of her, Gloria’s Princess could be the right one when she runs in a competitive group of eight in Friday’s second-level allowance/optional $62,500 claiming feature scheduled for one mile on turf at Gulfstream Park.

Embraceable Gal in winnable spot

Barbara D. Livingston
Linda Rice's uncoupled pair serve as Embraceable Gal's primary competition.

Five-time winner Embraceable Gal has run credibly in two starts at Aqueduct since returning to this circuit for another winter following a productive 2024 campaign at Finger Lakes.

Second and third in two starts at Aqueduct so far, Embraceable Gal seems to have found a winnable spot to clear this first-level statebred condition going seven furlongs in what serves as the feature on Friday’s modest eight-race Aqueduct card.

Golden Gate owners take a piece of the track with them

Maureen Richardson
Owner Maureen Richardson had Golden Gate's sixteenth pole shipped 10 hours to her home in Utah.

Most racetrack souvenirs do not require a multi-state delivery via flatbed truck and installation by a team of five men.

Then again, what former Northern California horse owner Maureen Richardson took home from a Golden Gate Fields memorabilia auction last year, a few months after the track’s permanent closure in June, is far from the norm.

Richardson bought the sixteenth pole – the marker that indicated there was 110 yards to the finish. She had it extracted from its trackside position and shipped 10 hours to her home in Sandy, Utah.

Amorita, Resolve could buck trend of winning favorites

Barbara D. Livingston
So far at Santa Anita's winter meet, favorites have won 48 percent of the time.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Long on turf, short on dirt, 3-year-old fillies are featured in the top two races Friday at Santa Anita.

An entry-level allowance turf mile, race 7, includes stakes-placed Supa Speed and Schilflied. But dominating maiden winner Amorita and change-in-strategy Resolve offer wagering value.

A maiden dirt sprint, race 8, is led by fast-working firsters Brilliantly and Maysam, trained by Bob Baffert. Their rivals include second-time starter Scusi and improving Surf Song.
