OZONE PARK, N.Y. – T Kraft beat Ican by 1 1/4 lengths when they met in a first-level allowance race going 6 1/2 furlongs last month at Aqueduct. Those two 3-year-olds appear the protagonists in a six-horse field entered in Saturday’s $125,000 Jimmy Winkfield Stakes going six furlongs at Aqueduct.

The upset price for horses at Fasig-Tipton auctions will now be $2,500. The industry standard upset price across the major U.S. auction houses is $1,000. This price had been in place at Fasig-Tipton since 2000.

All but two of the 11 fillies and mares entered for Saturday night’s $125,000 Queen Stakes at Turfway Park have won at the Florence, Ky., track this season. That group is led by Awesome Treat and Lithe Spirit, both recent stakes winners over the Turfway-loving Nice as Pie, a multiple stakes winner here. Nice as Pie gets a chance for revenge in the last sprint stakes of this meet for older fillies and mares.

PHOENIX – Turf Paradise’s marquee event, the $50,000 Phoenix Gold Cup Handicap, is the proverbial cherry on top of a five-stakes program Saturday that also features the $50,000 Cotton Fitzsimmons Handicap, $50,000 Turf Paradise Derby, $50,000 Arizona Oaks, and $50,000 Queen of the Green Handicap.

The six-furlong Gold Cup goes as the finale on a nine-race card, drawing a competitive field of nine that’s headed by 124-pound highweight Redline, the streaking Coastal Jazz, and the dangerous invader Tapatio Leo.
