The Arkansas Racetrack Chaplaincy will auction off a halter regularly worn by Thorpedo Anna, the 2024 Horse of the Year, during its annual banquet on Thursday night, March 20, Chaplain Robi Heffington said. It will be showcased in a shadow box frame and is part of a package deal with a framed Kentucky Oaks picture signed by trainer Kenny McPeek and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr.

The item is one of about 15 for a live auction. There also will be a silent auction.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Oaklawn Park is considering moving to a four-day race week for the majority of its meet next season in conversations being held with horsemen and Hot Springs community leaders, according to track president Lou Cella.

Oaklawn’s current meet format features a three-day race week, from Friday through Sunday.

Barker confident Shipsational will end losing streak

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Since his highly successful 2-year-old year, in which he won a pair of New York-bred stakes, Shipsational has lost 19 straight races. In his career, he is 0 for 13 at Aqueduct.

But to listen to trainer Eddie Barker tell it, the now 6-year-old Shipsational is in career form entering a first-level open-company allowance race Sunday that serves as the feature on Aqueduct’s nine-race card.

“He might run the best race he’s run in his life,” Barker said Friday. “Right now, he’s running the numbers he was running as a 2-year-old.”

Mister Omaha is a two-time stakes winner, and his record makes him a standout on class Tuesday in the $50,000 Welder Stakes at Will Rogers Downs.

The six-furlong race is for 3-year-olds bred in Oklahoma. It drew a field of five that includes a capable Sam Houston shipper in John.

The Welder, which honors the $1.2 million earner at his home track of Will Rogers, is slotted as the fifth race Tuesday.
