Fedupwiththefed hopes to feast on Park Avenue competition

Adam Coglianese/NYRA
In her second start, Fedupwiththefed came from seventh in a 14-horse field and rallied to win by three-quarters of a length.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Fedupwiththefed likely won’t be 20-1 like she was when she won a maiden race here for New York-breds two weeks ago, but she figures to still offer some value in a competitive renewal of Sunday’s $200,000 Park Avenue division of the New York Stallion Series for 3-year-old fillies at Aqueduct.

The Park Avenue, which drew a field of 10, goes as the last of eight races on a card that also includes the $200,000 Times Square division of the NYSS for 3-year-old males, which only drew a field of five. The Times Square goes as race 2.

Despite layoff, Future Is Now one to beat in Giant's Causeway

Coady Media
Future Is Now returns Saturday for the Giant's Causeway at Keeneland, the site of her last win and race in October in the Franklin.

Arzak finished seventh in the Shakertown Stakes on April 8, breaking trainer Michael Trombetta’s string of five straight finishes of third or better in Keeneland turf-sprint stakes dating to the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Future Is Now was part of that streak, capturing the Grade 2 Franklin last October, and she’ll be favored to renew Trombetta’s Keeneland turf-sprint success Sunday in the Grade 3, $350,000 Giant’s Causeway.

Leinster, Maxfield thriving as stallions

Barbara D. Livingston
Leinster has eight first-crop juveniles cataloged for the OBS spring sale.

Leinster has found an adopted home at stud in Florida, but he had much of his racing success at Keeneland in Kentucky. He continued to build on his accomplishments there, as he sired the winner of this year’s first 2-year-old race in North America. His Florida-bred daughter Lennilu won the first race on opening day at the traditional 4 1/2-furlong distance.

Eddie Woods will bring his final 2-year-old consignment to the OBS spring sale.

The breeze-up sale season in North America continues with a sizable catalog at this week’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training.

The spring sale typically has the largest catalog of the three OBS 2-year-olds in training sales, as the company offers the bulk of the crop in North America. There are 1,207 juveniles cataloged for this year’s edition, which takes place over four sessions from April 15-18.

Thunderous break should serve Gray Lightning well

Sabrina Elkington/Equi-Photo
Gray Lightning has won three races by a combined margin of more than 33 lengths.

Gray Lightning tends to leave the starting gate like a shot, which should serve her well from post 1 Monday in the $50,000 Wilma Mankiller Stakes at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla.

The Wilma Mankiller is a six-furlong race for fillies and mares. The field of six includes last year’s winner, Palacein, multiple stakes winner Take Me Serious, and quality closer Merasol Sugar.

Weekend GamePlan: Picks for Jenny Wiley, Apple Blossom, Lexington

No Show Sammy Jo wins All Along at LRL Sept 14 2024
Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club
No Show Sammy Jo, shown winning the All Along Stakes at Laurel Park, will be more than fair odds in a wide-open edition of the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley at Keeneland.

A dark weekend on the West Coast, quiet on the East Coast, most eyes on Keeneland and Oaklawn this Saturday.

Jenny Wiley

A fascinating race, with a French import, a Dubai shipper, an England shipper, the one-two finishers from the most important female turf race so far this year in America, and a couple of talented 4-year-olds. (Spoiler alert: The play is none of those.)
