About Sports Betting in Nebraska

When the WarHorse Casino at Legacy Downs in Lincoln accepted Nebraska's first sports wager in 2023, the home of the Huskers became the 36th state to commence sports betting. While efforts are afoot to legalize mobile wagering in Nebraska, it remains a retail-only state, with six racetracks authorized to accept in-person bets.

Not having mobile wagering is an obvious drawback, as is Nebraska's restriction on betting on in-state schools. Few states are as crazy about college sports, with the University of Nebraska's football and women's volleyball programs leading the way and Omaha playing host to the College World Series.

Sports betting in Nebraska is still young, and with several neighboring states offering online wagering, the hope is that the Cornhusker State will eventually come around.

Hidden Path the challenger to Zarak the Brave in Lonesome Glory

Barbara D. Livingston
Off a second-place finish in the Jonathan Shepard, Zarak the Brave will likely be favored in Thursday's Lonesome Glory at Aqueduct.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Zarak the Brave looms the likely favorite in Thursday’s Grade 1, $150,000 Lonesome Glory Handicap at Aqueduct, but given the fact favorites went 0 for 5 in steeplechase races at Saratoga during the summer, perhaps looking elsewhere might be the way to go in this 2 1/2-mile jump race.

Asmussen hopes Iroquois was a breakthrough for Spice Runner

Coady Media
Spice Runner is likely to train up to the Breeders’ Cup off his Iroquois win.

Spice Runner has been a promising but immature colt this season. Both aspects of his personality were seen in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes on Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Spice Runner wandered about in the stretch when urged by jockey Jose Ortiz, with trainer Steve Asmussen noting the colt didn’t appreciate the whip. However, Spice Runner then zeroed in on Comport out in front of him and bore down with focus in the final yards to get up by a head at the wire. He earned a 76 Beyer Speed Figure.
