Winx wins Chipping Norton Stakes for 15th straight victory

The reigning Australian Horse of the Year and the leading turf runner in the world, Winx won the $461,000 Chipping Norton Stakes at about a mile by two lengths over Lasqueti Spirit. Ridden by Hugh Bowman, Winx closed from fifth with about a quarter-mile remaining to take the lead with a furlong to go. The Chipping Norton Stakes drew a field of 10.

Mubtaahij preps for Dubai World Cup

Barbara D. Livingston
Mubtaahij (right) finishes second by a head to Shaman Ghost in the Woodward Stakes last summer.

Mubtaahij, who finished second in the 2016 Dubai World Cup, will have his prep for a second run in the $10 million race when he starts Thursday night at Meydan Racecourse in the $160,000 Curlin Handicap.

Mubtaahij undoubtedly will be heavily favored to win the listed race over about 1 1/4 miles on dirt, but while he is a far more accomplished horse than any of his rivals, Mubtaahij will be making his first start since Oct. 8, and last winter the horse did not run to his best form until the World Cup itself.
