Thoroughbred Charities of America stallion season auction set for January

The 26th annual Thoroughbred Charities of America stallion season auction will be held Monday, Jan. 4 through Saturday, Jan. 9.

The event features a five-day online auction, where the majority of the seasons will be offered, and culminates with a live select stallion season auction on Jan. 9 at the Keeneland Entertainment Center in Lexington, Ky.

“Our team of volunteers is working very hard to gather extremely high-quality stallion seasons at the industry’s largest annual fundraiser,” said Mike McMahon, TCA board member and chairman of the auction committee. “We hope bidders enjoy the value and exclusivity available in the auction.”

Online bidding will open at 9 a.m. Eastern on Jan. 4 and will continue through 5 p.m. on Jan. 8. Telephone bidding will be available on Friday, Jan. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Approximately 10 seasons will be sold during the live select season auction on Jan 9. Bidders or their authorized agents may bid on the select seasons by attending the auction in-person or they may bid during the online phase with the highest bidders earning the right to bid by phone during the live auction. Other non-season lots will also be offered during the live auction, as well as silent auction items.

In 2015, TCA granted more than $515,000 to more than 67 charities working within Thoroughbred retraining, rehoming and retirement; backstretch and farm worker services, research and equine-assisted therapy.
