Minority interest in Soldat purchased prior to expected Fountain of Youth start

A minority interest in Soldat, who is scheduled to run on Saturday in the Grade 2, $400,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park, was purchased this week by Paul Braverman and the Namcook Stables of Terrence Murray and Jack Conley, Kiaran McLaughlin, the trainer of Soldat, said Wednesday morning.

Soldat’s majority owner remains Harvey Clarke, and a lesser portion of the colt is owned by W. Craig Robertson III.
Namcook has had a handful of horses with McLaughlin in recent years, most notably Lethal Combination, who won the Saranac Stakes at Saratoga last summer.

Soldat is coming off a runaway, 10 3/4-length victory in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 21 at 1 1/8 miles, the distance of the Fountain of Youth. That was his lone start this year.

Last year, Soldat won once - in the With Anticipation Stakes - and finished second in his other four starts, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
