Illinois Derby, Sunland Derby among options for Rescind the Trade

Rescind the Trade came out of his last-place finish in the Whirlaway Stakes with a foot problem, according to trainer Rick Violette, but the 3-year-old returned to the work tab earlier in the week. On Wednesday, Rescind the Trade breezed four furlongs in 49.88 seconds over Belmont’s training track.

Rescind the Trade won his first two starts in New York before shipping to south Florida, where he didn’t appear to acclimate well to the warmer weather. He returned to New York for the Whirlaway, where he set the pace before fading. He was beaten 10 3/4 lengths by Toby’s Corner.

“He came out of it with a bit of a foot issue,’’ Violette said. “The track was awful; he ran spotty and I certainly didn’t think he loved the racetrack.’’

Violette said he thinks Rescind the Trade might prefer to make one run from well off the pace and is looking to run him in another two-turn stakes to try and find out. Violette said all races are an option, including the Illinois Derby, Sunland Park Derby, and the Rebel at Oaklawn.

“I got to get through the next breeze,’’ Violette said.

Violette said he may consider the Spiral or Illinois Derby for The Fed Eased, who finished fifth behind Stay Thirsty in the Grade 3 Gotham on March 5.
