Trainer Todd Pletcher’s arsenal of 3-year-old talent includes Discreet Dancer, who won impressively for the second time in as many starts during the current Gulfstream Park meet when he dominated Saturday’s seventh race going a mile.
Discreet Dancer, who earned a 98 Beyer Speed Figure in his debut, broke alertly and controlled the race throughout before drawing away to a 5 1/2-length decision over Neck ‘n Neck with Javier Castellano aboard.
“He got a good post and did everything very professionally,” said Pletcher. “He put himself in the right spot, relaxed, handled the mile, and I liked what I saw after the race. He galloped out strong.”
Pletcher said it was a little too early to say where or when Discreet Dancer might run next but ruled out the one-mile Holy Bull on Jan. 29 as a possibility.
“This race opened up a lot of options but it would be a little quick for his third start to come back in the Holy Bull,” said Pletcher. “And off what I saw today I wouldn’t mind stretching him out further.”
Best Bets
HE AIN'T BLUFFING has been idle seven weeks, but has already posted three layover Beyers either as a first-time starter or when fresh, and new trainer Michelle Nevin has done well here lately with Gulfstream shippers off short breaks, including Teaks North in a stake earlier this week; went well on this track in only try. BUGSY LOSTY has been freshened since disappointing effort on Aqueduct's inner track first time in from SoCal circuit; money chances off two prior dirt races. SATURDAY APPEAL ran a big race at 15-1 when blinkers came on last Nov. 29, and then won with them off Feb.
