HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Curlin’s Approval successfully passed her final test in advance of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, drawing away to a 4 3/4-length victory over Money Or Love and five other overmatched rivals in Sunday’s Barely Even Handicap, one of four $50,000 stakes on closing day of the Gulfstream Park summer meet. Despite having missed several days of training due to Hurricane Irma, Curlin’s Approval had little trouble notching her fourth win in six starts this season, sitting a perfect stalking trip under jockey Edgard Zayas. Curlin’s Approval attended the early leaders, moved readily to command in early stretch, then steadily extended her advantage through the final furlong. Money Or Love rallied mildly to finish second, 1 1/2 lengths in front of  Lirica, while never menacing the winner. Curlin’s Approval, a 4-year-old daughter of Curlin, is owned by her trainer, Happy Alter, in partnership with Bridlewood Farm. She covered seven furlongs in 1:22.38 over a fast track and paid $2.80. “We got a good trip, got a good ride, just like we discussed beforehand,” said Alter. “So, everything went well, and we’re on to the Breeders’ Cup.” • Extravagant Kid posted his second stakes victory in the past two weeks, scoring by three-quarters of a length over Successful Native in the Green  Parrot Handicap at five furlongs on turf.      Extravagant Kid showed a bit more speed than expected, stalking the pace of even-money favorite R Limo Joe, took control midway on the turn, edged clear, then held safe a belated rally from Successful Native. Blackjack Baby finished third in a field of only five turf-sprint specialists. Extravagant Kid paid $5.40. “He’s become a real consistent horse,” said trainer Milt Wolfson. “He came out of the last race good, so I really didn’t worry about running him back in two weeks. He’s probably a little better on turf, but he’s run some good races on the dirt, so I wasn’t worried either way [if the race came off the grass].” Wolfson also was quick to praise jockey Jose Batista, who has been aboard Extravagant Kid for his last two wins. “He’s very smart,” Wolfson said. “I give him a lot of credit: He knows exactly where he’s at, and he makes all the right moves.” • Splash Rules continued his winning ways with a 1 1/2-length triumph over Abounding Legacy in the Alabama Jack’s Handicap. The victory was the third in a row for Splash Rules, a son of Pomeroy who captured the Groomstick Handicap in his previous start. Splash Rules is trained by John Vinson for owner Doulas Gibson and was guided to victory by regular rider Tyler Gaffalione. He paid $5.20. • Despite having never won a race on dirt in 23 tries, Dreaming of Gold was bet to 3-1 favoritism in the Bull and Whistle Handicap and ran to his backing, leading throughout to post a 1 1/2-length tally over the late-running Indian Guide in the overnight test for older horses. Dreaming of Gold was haltered by Victor Barboza Jr., who won the 2017 summer training title, for $30,000 here in January and had made only one subsequent start prior to the Bull and Whistle. Owned by Granpollo Stable and ridden by Emisael Jaramillo, Dreaming of Gold ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.85 and paid $8.20.    :: Breeders’ Cup Challenge: Results, replays, charts, and more :: Breeders' Cup PP packages: Get PPs, betting strategies, DRF+ Pro access, and more
