1. Goodnight Olive Chad Brown Irad Ortiz, Jr. 8-5
Trainer: Chad Brown Jockey: Irad Ortiz, Jr.
BF: Convincing FMS winner last year, as good this year, versatile style, but inside post complicates deserving favorite
2. Clearly Unhinged Michael McCarthy Umberto Rispoli 15-1
Trainer: Michael McCarthy Jockey: Umberto Rispoli
BF: Lightly raced 3yo was super runner-up in fast-pace G3, final times + corresponding figs must improve, speed of speed?
3. Eda Bob Baffert Juan Hernandez 12-1
Trainer: Bob Baffert Jockey: Juan Hernandez
BF: Won 8 of 11 against cozy California fillies, unsure if she fits vs. national elite, compromising trip last-out third odds-on
4. Matareya Brad Cox Flavien Prat 6-1
Trainer: Brad Cox Jockey: Flavien Prat
BF: Finished far behind Goodnight Olive and Society in both recent, though pace-pressing style may translate to good trip
5. Kirstenbosch John Sadler Hector Berrios 12-1
Trainer: John Sadler Jockey: Hector Berrios
BF: Consistent late-runner upset a modest California cast last out, pace-dependent closer needs a meltdown up front
6. Meikei Yell Hidenori Take Kenichi Ikezoe 30-1
Trainer: Hidenori Take Jockey: Kenichi Ikezoe
BF: Japan shipper unplaced in five starts since most recent win autmn 2022, multiple Group 2/3 winner tough to like
7. Society Steve Amussen Tyler Gaffalione 5-2
Trainer: Steve Amussen Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione
BF: Seven furlongs ideal for fast filly with triple-digit figs in recent pair at the distance, well-drawn outside her pace rivals
8 Three Witches Saffie Joseph, Jr. Luis Saez 20-1
Trainer: Saffie Joseph, Jr. Jockey: Luis Saez
BF: Earned BC FMS berth via low-rated G3 upset in Florida WAYI, career-best 91 Beyer makes her marginal contender
9. Yuugiri Rodolphe Brisset Ricardo Santana, Jr. 5-1
Trainer: Rodolphe Brisset Jockey: Ricardo Santana, Jr.
BF: Ranks just below division leaders, 7-for-14 filly earned career-best fig last, six furlongs her sweet spot, less certain 7f

The horses that compete in these championship races can claim their berths in multiple ways. The first is by winning a Breeders' Cup Challenge race. The second is through a system that allows horses to earn points based on their performance in major races throughout the year. The third way to be selected is to be chosen by a panel of experts. There are a maximum of 14 horses in each Breeders' Cup race, except the Dirt Mile and Juvenile Turf Sprint, which are limited to 12 starters.
