Breeders' Cup Classic longshot Tacitus breezes with Channel Maker; Mott plans to pre-enter six

Barbara D. Livingston
Tacitus snapped a seven-race losing streak with his win in the Suburban Stakes at Belmont.

ELMONT, N.Y. -  After getting beat as the 3-5 favorite in the Woodward and Jockey Club Gold Cup - both Grade 1 stakes at 1 1/4 miles - Tacitus will head to the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 7 as most likely a double-digit priced longshot. Still, Bill Mott doesn’t see the point in leaving a healthy, sound horse who has finished in the top three in 10 career stakes in the barn.

Tetragonal, second by a neck in the Surfer Girl Stakes on Oct. 4 at Santa Anita, is an intended starter in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Nov. 6 at Keeneland, if she can draw into what is likely to be a large field.

Trained by Richard Baltas for Slam Dunk Racing and Joey Platts, Tetragonal was seventh after a poor start in her American debut in the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf at a mile on Sept. 6, and then finished well to end up close to the undefeated Madone in the Surfer Girl. Madone is a candidate for the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf.
