Quite a Bride strong at finish of Pebbles

ELMONT, N.Y. - Quite a Bride went unchallenged on the lead early then demonstrated a strong closing kick in the final quarter of a mile to win the $110,000 by two lengths before a Columbus Day crowd of 5,698 at Belmont Park.

Ready to Please, making her turf debut, finished second, five lengths ahead of Calla Lily.

Both 'Silver' horses are contenders

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Silver Highlight and Silver Impulse could be a successful hunch exactor in Wednesday's Woodbine feature, an $80,000 optional claimer for fillies and mares.

Silver Highlight will likely be favored in the 1 1/16-mile race. She came from England to win her maiden here in the restricted Wonder Where Stakes in July 2005.

Horse Greeley too sore for BC Juvenile

ARCADIA, Calif. - Horse Greeley came out of Sunday's Grade 2 Norfolk Breeders' Cup Stakes at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting with sore ankles and will not contest the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4, trainer Richard Mandella said Monday.

The first two finishers from the Norfolk - Stormello and Principle Secret - are expected to run in the BC Juvenile. Spot the Diplomat, who finished third, will make his next start in the $125,000 California Cup Juvenile here on Oct. 28.

Great Intentions blossoms in Gallant Bloom

After finishing second to Win McCool in the Grade 3 Floral Park Handicap, Great Intentions exacted some revenge on that rival by rolling to a four-length victory in Sunday's Grade 2, $150,000 at Belmont Park.

Annika Lass rallied for second by a nose over Getcozywithkaylee. Win McCool faded to fourth after dueling with the winner. Swap Fliparoo and Nothing But Fun completed the order of finish.

Dancing Squall gives Veltmann second stakes win

Clyde Veltmann, who returned to training this past spring following a 30-year hiatus, won his second stakes this year when Dancing Squall captured the $68,000 Zia Park Distaff at 18-1 on Sunday. She won by eight lengths over Fun'ngames Toknite, who finished 1 1/2 lengths in front of third-place finisher Ladysgotthelooks.

Stormello best in Norfolk BC

ARCADIA, Calif. - Stormello, third in two graded stakes at Del Mar, is bound for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4 after winning Sunday's $247,000 at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting.

Ridden by Kent Desormeaux, Stormello ($25.80) ran 1 11-6 miles in 1:43.10, outlasting 9-5 Principle Secret in a stretch-long duel. Spot the Diplomat finished third in the field of nine.

Owned by Al Eisman and trainer Bill Currin, Stormello was fourth early and won by a neck. The Stormy Atlantic colt has won two of five starts and $230,200.

Just Rushing takes Mt. Sassafras

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Just Rushing, a $40,000 claim by Tucci Stable last November, won his sixth race in a row Sunday at Woodbine in the $76,200 Mt. Sassafras Stakes.

Just Rushing put away two rivals on the front end in the seven-furlong dash, after moderate fractions of :22.87 and :45.51 seconds. He opened up a clear lead in the stretch, and prevailed by a length and three-quarters over a stalking Edenwold. Main Executive finished third, and favored Dave the Knave was sixth in the eight-horse field of Ontario-foaled runners.

Noble Stella injured

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Noble Stella is through racing for this season, at a minimum, after being injured during a workout over Woodbine's Polytrack surface here Saturday morning.

"It was just a normal little maintenance breeze," said trainer Roger Attfield, who had watched Noble Stella breeze five furlongs 1:01.60 under assistant trainer Rachel Halden.

"She came back with a chip in her knee."

Attfield informed owner Gary Tanaka of Noble Stella's status on Sunday and sent X-rays to several consulting veterinarians to help determine her future.

Pick six carryover at $131,845

ARCADIA, Calif. - Monday's holiday card at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting features a pick six carryover of $131,845, the first since the meeting began on Sept. 27.

Stormello's upset win at 11-1 in the Grade 2 Norfolk Breeders' Cup Stakes was the longest price in the pick six sequence.

In the last race, favored Charming Legacy, a single on some tickets, was scratched after becoming lose before the start. Bettors that failed to make an alternate selection on their pick six tickets had their selection transferred to the new favorite, Queen's Song, who finished fourth.

Asi Siempre wins Juddmonte Spinster

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Asi Siempre had been largely a Grade 3 or Grade 2 caliber filly on turf. But on Polytrack there might not be any limit to her potential.

Making her first start over the synthetic Polytrack surface in Sunday's Grade 1, $500,000 at Keeneland, Asi Siempre scored easily, winning by 2.25 lengths over a field that included Happy Ticket, Spun Sugar, Summerly and Lemons Forever.
