This Bud's for American Classic

American Classic became a stakes winner Saturday at Sunland Park, when he was up for a head win over favorite Sky Jedi in the $50,000 Budweiser Stakes. It was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third to Loves Bonus.

American Classic ($23.40) raced in third early in the five-furlong Budweiser, as Cape of Bradford ran the opening quarter in 22.02 seconds while under pressure from Loves Bonus. American Classic continued to stalk the leaders, and was determined through the lane to win in 57.70 seconds. Agapito Delgadillo was aboard for trainer Jon Arnett.

Court Vision wins on DQ of Take the Points

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Take the Points won the battle, registering an apparent 1 1/2-length victory over Court Vision in Saturday's . But he ultimately lost the war after being disqualified from first and was placed fifth for allegedly impeding Yate's Black Cat near the sixteenth pole in the Grade 1 event.

Trainer Todd Pletcher said there is a possibility Take the Points' owner, the Starlight Partners, might appeal the decision.

Racing Bran all the way in Essex

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Racing Bran was a dangerous horse to leave alone on the lead in the at Oaklawn Park on Saturday. He came into the race with an 8-for-21 record, and he goes home a stakes winner after he dictated the terms throughout for a 4 1/4-length win over the 4-5 favorite, Win Willy. It was another neck back to Prom Shoes in third.

Musket Man holds on to win Super Stakes

OLDSMAR, Fla. - Musket Man justified his role as the overwhelming favorite of the 20th running of the $75,000 Super Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs by turning back a determined bid from Guam Typhoon through the final three-sixteenths of a mile, coming away with a hard-earned neck victory in his first start since finishing third behind Rachel Alexandra in last year's Preakness Stakes.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - No horse is easier to spot or more enjoyable to watch train in the morning than Presious Passion, who put on quite a show on a regular basis in the mornings leading up to his second-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita.

As a result, no horse had been more conspicuous by his absence during training hours last month than Presious Passion, who finally returned to the track last week after being given a much-deserved hiatus by trainer Mary Hartmann.

Royal Express wires in Black Gold

Royal Express goes wire to wire in Saturday's Black Gold Stakes at Fair Ground.

NEW ORLEANS - One day shy of his 69th birthday, trainer Spanky Broussard claimed victory in the $60,000 Black Gold, as his colt Royal Express wired the field to win by 3 1/2 lengths.

The lone speed horse left after Comedero was injured in the starting gate, Royal Express was left alone on the lead to set moderate fractions and control the race.

"I didn't think I'd be that far in front, but he went easy," said jockey James Graham. "I was worried about Comedero's speed, but he scratched from the race."

Stakes-rich Santa Anita card washed away

ARCADIA, Calif.- Santa Anita was forced to cancel a lucrative 10-race program on Saturday after the Pro-Ride brand synthetic track failed to drain sufficiently following 3 1/2 inches of rain in a 24-hour period from early Friday into Saturday.

The track announced midday Saturday that the five canceled stakes will be run rescheduled from Thursday through Saturday. The three graded stakes - the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes for 3-year-olds fillies, the Grade 2 Robert Lewis Stakes for 3-year-olds, and the Grade 2 Strub Stakes for 4-year-olds will be run on Saturday.

NEW ORLEANS - Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra worked Saturday at Fair Grounds for the second time this year, stepping up her pace and covering a half-mile in 50.60 seconds over a fast track.

With assistant trainer Scott Blasi leading on his pony and with trainer Steve Asmussen trailing on horseback, Rachel Alexandra arrived at the Fair Grounds main track at 6:31 a.m. with regular exercise rider Dominic Terry aboard.

Cosmic comes on late to win King Cotton

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Cosmic, a son of the champion racemare Heavenly Prize, became a stakes winner Friday at Oaklawn, when he rolled up the rail for a one-length win over Chief of Affairs in the $50,000 King Cotton. It was another two lengths back in third to Agastache.
