Saratoga Spa Babies for August 27, Race 5

Welcome to Spa Babies! I'll break down the statistics for  every juvenile contest at the meet and hope for a tidy profit.  In past years, I would list the stats for each horse before writing up my analysis, selections and wagering strategy.  In order to streamline the content, this year's Spa Babies will showcase written analyses of each juvenile race.  Each analysis will include relevant statistical information.  Following the analysis, top three selections and wagering strategy will be provided.

Saratoga: Turallure runs down Get Stormy to win Bernard Baruch

Barbara D. Livingston
Turallure, with Julien Leparoux riding, wins the Bernard Baruch.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Turallure could not make up ground after Sidney’s Candy’s was allowed to get away with a snail-like pace in the Fourstardave Handicap earlier in the meet. But the faster fractions and added distance of the $200,000 Bernard Baruch was all Turallure needed to run down defending champion Get Stormy to register a 2 1/4-length victory in the Grade 2 over a good course Friday at Saratoga.

Saratoga: Wine Police lands in softer spot in Distorted Humor

No one would have thought twice had the connections of Wine Police entered their 3-year-old in Saturday’s Grade 1 King’s Bishop. But they opted for an easier spot in Sunday’s $75,000 Distorted Humor Stakes at six furlongs.

Wine Police will face only four rivals in the Distorted Humor, including stablemate Chipshot.

“I just feel a lot more comfortable at three-quarters with him right now,’’ trainer Steve Asmussen said of Wine Police. “Hopefully, they both run their races and come out of it well and I think the Gallant Bob is an option for both of them after this.’’
